Shorty Rogers, is a ‘born and bread Scouser’ who emerged as Big Ron, the founder member of the Searchers along with John Mcnally and Mike Pender in Liverpool in 1958, taking the name from the John Wayne movie. After leaving the Searchers he fronted The Duke Duval Combo peforming at the Cavern Club in Liverpool with such acts as Rory Storm and The Hurricanes, The Big Three, Gerry and the Pacemakers and The Beatles, He then joined The Nat Alan Orchestra as band leader, which toured the British Isles from 1960 – 65 playing the Mecca dancehall circuit. It was while performing as the resident act at the Edinburgh Palais de Dance that he became known as Shorty. After an extended period of touring he decided to make Edinburgh his permanent home and settled down to start a family. In the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s Shorty Rogers was a regular face in the Scottish music scene playing many of the well known pub and club gigs on the circuit. He became renowned for his flamboyant stage antics (kicking pendulum lamps on stage). performing with a myriad of live acts which include Flash Harry, Scouse on the Rocks and his current band the Shorty Rogers Rock ‘n’ Roll Review.
