Halloween Party 2011

The BP Halloween Party is on the Saturday the 29th of October. Why not Monday the 31st? Because Mondays are generally a bit boring, and we’d like to give you a chance to test drive your outfit!

Get yourself dressed up and pop in for a horrifically good night. Lydia’s in charge of the decor and promises “cave-like”. We’ll have lots of strange potions and concoctions on the go, plus Medina’s DJ Aaron is defecting to us for the night to provide the tunes.

With prizes for the best outfits, and the usual Poet shennanigans it’s going to be a big and silly night.

Class Of 2011

Getting most of the staff and regulars in the same place, at the same time, and relatively sober is a remarkably tricky affair. But we managed it, and nobody got run over whilst nipping across the road to hit the timer on the camera, so ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the minor triumph that is the Blind Poet Class Photo (2011).

OK, so it’s cold outside and the nights are rapidly drawing in – big deal, we’ve got a fire, the couches are cosy, and frankly the outdoors are over-rated. So get in early, bag the most comfortable seats, grab a drink and relax…

All our gigs and events are entirely free, with the exception of the quiz which costs a whole pound per team to enter.

Tuesdays (4th, 11th, 18th, 25th)	Open Mic Chris Scott provides the PA and organisation, you provide the talent. All welcome!
Thursdays (6th, 13th, 20th, 27th)	Karaoke Big Mark presents Edinburgh’s finest and not-so-finest. Free prize for all singers!

Sundays (9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th)	The BP Quiz Test your brains against the quiz, the staff, and a horde of regulars in the corner. Prizes for first, second and last and a cash jackpot there for the taking!

Edinburgh Freshers Week 2011

Coming to Edinburgh Uni, Telford, Queen Margaret, Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh College of Art or Napier in September? Well we’ve got a few things planned!

As usual, we’ll have all of the usual big screen sporting events, bands and Karaoke on.

Game of darts? We can manage that too.

Free Wi-Fi while the flat connection is being sorted out? Check!

Our spoken word night, Blind Poetics, continues growing from strength to strength, and we’ll have special deals and giveaways on throughout Fresher’s Week, including our now infamous Fresher’s Packs bundled with T-shirts, special promotions, pens and the all important Super-Noodles – in fact everything you need to keep you alive for the first week.

So pop in, get to know the staff, and you’ll have an invaluable haunt for the next four years. And some mates – we’re all lovely, even The Fraggle, who does try to hide it very well.

Live Music Tonight

on Friday night we have the fabulous Blind Lemon playing for us!

On sat september 3rd we have SHORTY ROGERS!!!!

Shorty Rogers, is a ‘born and bread Scouser’ who emerged as Big Ron, the founder member of the Searchers along with John Mcnally and Mike Pender in Liverpool in 1958, taking the name from the John Wayne movie. After leaving the Searchers he fronted The Duke Duval Combo peforming at the Cavern Club in Liverpool with such acts as Rory Storm and The Hurricanes, The Big Three, Gerry and the Pacemakers and The Beatles, He then joined The Nat Alan Orchestra as band leader, which toured the British Isles from 1960 – 65 playing the Mecca dancehall circuit. It was while performing as the resident act at the Edinburgh Palais de Dance that he became known as Shorty. After an extended period of touring he decided to make Edinburgh his permanent home and settled down to start a family. In the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s Shorty Rogers was a regular face in the Scottish music scene playing many of the well known pub and club gigs on the circuit. He became renowned for his flamboyant stage antics (kicking pendulum lamps on stage). performing with a myriad of live acts which include Flash Harry, Scouse on the Rocks and his current band the Shorty Rogers Rock ‘n’ Roll Review.

Also every 2nd Monday of the month we have Blind Poetics, our poetry, storytelling and general spoken word night!

The Blind Poet in West Nicolson Street is a little bit different!

Rather than focus on the mainstream like our huge beergardened neighbour (although we do show a lot of live sports etc), we like to focus on things that little bit unusual!

We have events such as Blindpoetics – our spoken word, story telling and poetry night, we also have a huge programme of live music and entertainment and other events such as being a home to the ragged university – a free for all programme of free education, we give talks and informed lectures on a huge variety of subjects.

We would like to be able to offer the right societies use of our venue as a meeting place, a place to put on talks, hold events and fundraisers and free use of our stage to promote the societies.

We have held international interactive talks and meetings shown live on our big screen and are open for ideas from all avenues.

We have a small pot put aside for societies to get uniforms, pay fees, offer discounts, hold events, etc. Just let us know what you fancy and we can see
what we can do!
